The Kewtech EZYPAT is a battery-powered manual PAT tester with single-button automatic test sequences for Class I, Class II and extension leads, making it quick and intuitive to use. The large backlit display shows clear measured readings, with a red/green backlight to indicate pass or fail. The KEWPAT app can also be used to record results and appliance information for simple, organised record keeping.

If you’re new to PAT testing, we recommend attending a PAT testing course before buying a tester. You’ll use the Kewtech EZYPAT and other models on the course, and learn how to select the correct tests and interpret readings in line with the IET Code of Practice. Our trainers can also help you choose the most suitable tester for your needs.

A Closer Look at the EZYPAT

compartment with 6 AA batteries
Powered by 6 X AA batteries

The EZYPAT is powered by six standard AA batteries. Kewtech estimate an average 1,400 tests before the batteries will need replacing. From our own experience using the Ezypat during our training courses, the battery life is excellent and this appears to be a reasonable estimate.

soft carry case
Soft carry case

The soft carry case has a main compartment for the tester, and a separate section at the back for storing test leads, labels etc.

2m silicone rubber test lead
Test lead with probe and crocodile clip

The test lead has an interchangeable probe and crocodile clip. The high quality silicone rubber lead is nice and supple and is a generous 2m in length, making it easy to reach around the back of a computer to attach the test clip. Unlike some other manufacturers, Kewtech use a standard double ended 4mm test lead. This means that if you ever need to replace a damaged or lost lead, they are widely available from most electrical suppliers.

Nulling the test lead resistance
Nulling the test lead resistance

The resistance of the test lead can also be 'Nulled'. The nulling process ensures that the resistance of the test lead does not influence the measured resistance of the equipment under test. The test lead is connected to the earth terminal on the test instrument using the supplied brass pin and then simply press and hold the ‘NULL’ button for 2 seconds.

If you want to understand how the earth continuity pass limit is calculated (including allowances for cable length and conductor size), see our earth continuity limit guide and calculator.

testing an appliance
Appliance test

Automatic test sequences for Class I and Class II appliances are started with a single button press. The results are easy to read on a large clear display, and the backlit screen illuminates green for a pass and red for a fail. The earth continuity test is carried out at 200mA, so it can be safely used on all equipment without the risk of causing damage to sensitive electronic components.

The insulation test can be set to either 500V or 250V. For most equipment, the 500V test should be used, but the 250V test can be selected for equipment containing surge protection circuits that might otherwise give a false fail at 500V. The Class I and Class II test sequences also include a substitute leakage test.

testing an extension lead
Extension lead test

The extension lead test sequence includes a polarity test in addition to the earth continuity and insulation tests. A short red IEC lead is included for testing extension leads. The resistance of the IEC lead can also be nulled.

recording results on the Kewpat app
Recording test results with the free Kewpat app

The Ezypat can be used with the Kewpat app to record the test results. The free to use Kewpat app is available from Google Play or the Apple App Store. The app is specifically designed for use with the Kewtech Ezypat and Smartpat range of testers and is simple and intuitive to use. The test results are manually entered into the app along with the appliance id, description, location, site and customer details. The results can then be exported from the app in a PDF or CSV file format.
