As you join the team you will carry out Portable Appliance Testing of mobile electrical equipment in a housing environment. Your will also carry out HMO programmed testing of Fire Alarms, Emergency Lighting and Fire Extinguishers.

Your duties will include -

P.A.T. is carried in accordance with the current edition of The Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment and in accordance with Procedures and Policies.
To produce and maintain a branch inventory of all electrical equipment and appliances/tools using IT databases and spreadsheets and to ensure that planned maintenance schedules are kept to.
To carry out visual Inspections and PAT testing on electrical equipment, ensuring all results are accurate and complete and to maintain all paperwork and electronic data records relevant to the work carried out and to ensure completion of the job is confirmed and a comprehensive and accurate history is available for audit purposes, which includes quality, H&S issues and for invoicing purposes
To test electrical equipment at specified time frequencies using a dedicated Portable Appliance Test Instrument at properties within a specified geographical area.
To produce reports of test results and outcome of testing.
To keep a comprehensive diary of all appointments.

Please note that this role does come with a company vehicle, as it does involves extensive travel and some overnight trips. The region you will be expected to cover includes the North East, Yorkshire & Humber Region, aswell as Glasgow and Belfast.

It’s over a year since we appointed the last one; originally on a 1-day per week contract he now works 5 days a week full time. We are looking to bring someone in initially for 3-days per week whilst training (for 3 months) then when qualified, rising to 5 days per week full time.

As a trainee you will be trained in all areas of PAT testing from basic electrics, to electrical safety, to fault finding, to health and safety, etc. You will be sent on a PAT Testing Expert one day training course initially and be expected to complete the City and Guilds 2377 training course and pass the exam, to complete your training.

The trainee will also be checked by the Disclosure Barring Service.

The trainee must have a driving license and access to a vehicle as you will be expected to drive yourself to and from jobs when no longer a trainee, as some work is carried out on your own.

Some understanding of electrical safety/electrical maintenance would be an advantage but not essential.

Whilst we are an equal opportunities employer some of the work can be strenuous so it helps if you are physically fit – there can be a lot of walking, crawling and climbing into tight spaces such as under desks. There is a lot of standing, leaning and stretching so you’ll need to be prepared for that.

PAT Tester - Thornbury

Details: We are looking for an enthusiastic, focussed PAT Tester to work in and around the Thornbury area for our expanding national electrical safety organisation.

Qualifications are an advantage with City and Guilds 2377 our benchmark qualification that must be achieved during the probationary period if not already gained at your own expense.

Hours are flexible between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday depending on the clients’ needs with a fixed basic wage plus an uncapped bonus leading to OTE of £28,000 per annum to the willing and hard working candidate.

All equipment to complete the role is provided; your role is to test to the company’s high standards while maintaining good relations with the customer to guarantee annual renewal.

You must have a full UK driving license with 6 points or less and no DR10 conviction in the last 5 years; be able to pass a Standard DBS check; provide two references one of which should be from your last employer.

Volunteer PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) Certifi - Addlestone

Details: Shooting Star Children's Hospices

This Volunteer role is to carry out PAT certification of small electrical items that have been donated to our shops and to ensure that they are recorded as safe to use.

The role will be carried out in each shop as needed. We have 13 shops (Ashford, Whitton, Twickenham, Hampton Hill, Teddington, Weybridge, Walton-on-Thames, Shepperton, Guildford, Cobham, Chiswick, Battersea, Fulham) that we will group into clusters for better logistics. Specific times and locations can be agreed with your application.

Duties and key responsibilities:

Sorting various donated household electrical products that can be brought back into use
Carrying out portable appliance test on donated electrical goods e.g. kettles, lamps, toasters etc.
Rectify minor faults discovered as a result of the PAT - replacing cables, fuses, plug tops etc.
Completing test sheets for each item tested and file
Ensuring PAT test label is placed on each item
Checking that products have suitable instructions/warnings attached to them
Carry out electrical testing of all Mains operated Portable electrical equipment to ensure legal compliance
Carry out every-day functional tests to ensure that the donated appliances are fit for purpose and safe to be sold in various Shooting Star Children’s Hospice retail outlets
Ensure that all systems are tested to the relevant electrical standards, as dictated by Professional bodies ensuring best practice is employed in all activities
Place items that have been passed to Manager for distribution
Place failed items to Manager for disposal according to re-cycling regulations
Ensure that the PAT testing equipment and extension lead are securely stored at the end of session
Report any equipment deficiencies
Comply with all SSCH H& S and Risk Assessments policies and procedures

Essential skills and experience:

Be reliable, dependable and committed to a high standards
Be cheerful and demonstrate good customer service skills
Show a good level of common sense and a practical capability
Be able to follow instructions and operate independently
Establish a focussed and methodical approach to tasks
Have a desire to learn and improve and undertake necessary training
Be physically fit with good stamina – lifting, carrying and standing will be required

NB – Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided via internal and external training programmes. The volunteer will gain a full understanding about Portable Appliance Testing.

Driving Licence advantageous

Approximately 6 to 8 hours per week to cover several shops.
