Established in 1981, Age Concern Central Lancashire provides a wide range of services primarily aimed at older people and their carers within the boundaries of Lancashire. The charity is well known for providing dementia care and support within the county in addition to a wide variety of services aimed at helping people to live well and age well.
Reporting to the Retail Cluster Manager, you will act as a font-line ambassador for the charity, you will have previous experience of driving, engaging with people, whilst possessing effective planning and organising skills. This role will also support the retail operations by carrying out Portable Appliance Testing on Electrical Items across our shops. Full training will be provided for this function.
This role will operate across Lancashire.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the retail operation in the movement and acquisition of stock through:
Distribution of stock between our shops, as required
Collection of donated items from the homes or businesses of our supporters and donors
Collection or delivery of larger stock items to and from our customers
Assistance with the opening and closure of new or vacated shops as required
After training - Provide Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for small electrical items prior to sale ensuring relevant records are recorded, maintained and filed as outlined in the Portable Appliance Testing guidelines.
Help to maximise income raised from donated goods by:
Encouraging sign-up to Gift Aid on all donated items
Taking full responsibility for the protection of all breakable items during transit ensuring adequate care is taken to protect stock from damage.
At all times deliver excellent levels of customer service
Be aware of donated goods that we are unable to accept due to noncompliance of safety standards or goods of poor unsellable condition and an understanding of regulations supporting the sale of used goods
Work as an active and collaborative member of the retail team by sharing useful knowledge and ideas with colleagues to foster a positive team spirit
Be honest, open, friendly and transparent at all times
Ensure engagement within the community in positive ways, ensuring that you act as an ambassador for Age Concern Central Lancashire
Remain vigilant of, and in compliance with all current Covid-19 procedures
Promote our “ Environmental” ambitions by driving pre-determined route planners to be as efficient and cost effective as possible
Support and value the organisation’s volunteer teams accordingly
The organisation is committed to supporting continuous professional development (CPD). There is an expectation that the post holder will complete role specific and mandatory training within the probationary period, maintaining a level of competence throughout their employment with us. Mandatory training includes Safeguarding, GDPR, Health and Safety. Role Specific training includes PAT testing and Gift Aid awareness. This list is not exhaustive.

In line with the organisation’s insurance policy, all drivers must be between 25 and 70 years old and have held a full Great Britain or Northern Ireland driving licence and licence appropriate to drive the organisation’s vehicles for at least two years. All drivers will be subject to a DVLA check prior to driving any of the organisation’s vehicles and may be able to drive a variety of the organisations other vehicles as and when required.
Work in accordance with all the organisation’s policies and procedures.
Participate and contribute generally to the organisation’s activities, attending meetings and conferences as required.
To safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and be familiar with relevant policy and guidance in this area and how it applies to your role.
To respect confidentiality, ensure all data is processed in a fair and lawful way in line with its purpose and that data is not disclosed in any way incompatible with this purpose or to any unauthorised persons or organisations.
Ensure that all appropriate standards of health and safety and security are met.
Be responsible for the security of the vehicle whilst on duty and alert the Facilities Manager to any maintenance issues or defects
Be responsible for all cash, stock and equipment held, ensuring all relevant processes are followed to minimise loss, theft and damage.
Participate in fundraising and promotional events, working with other members of staff and volunteers.
Perform any other duties that are commensurate with the post and may be specified from time to time by the organisation.
Undertake mandatory and role specific training that is identified and necessary for the role.
Be flexible regarding working hours from time to time.
Adopt a flexible attitude to duties, which may be varied (after discussion with the post holder) subject to the changing needs of the organisation.

Full, clean U.K drivers licence with two years’ driving experience - Essential
