Details: Job Purpose:

Responsible for Electrically Safety Testing (EST) of Portable Electrical Appliances across the customer estate at both UK and overseas locations to appropriate legislation and national standards, whilst ensuring quality and delivery on time and within budget.

To work in coordination with the EST Supervisor, providing timely responses and resolutions to test changes and issues for the duration of tasks.

Main Accountabilities:

Responsible for Portable Appliances Testing (PAT) across the customer estate at both UK and overseas locations in line with appropriate legislation and national standards, whilst ensuring quality and delivery on time and within budget.
To work in coordination with the EST Supervisor in order to promote timely responses and resolutions to test changes and issues for the duration of tasks.

To assist the EST Supervisor, to ensure that all electrical testing related documentation is submitted to the customer on completion of all tasks; including method statements and risk assessments.
Ensuring that all systems are tested to the relevant electrical standards, as dictated by professional bodies, ensuring best practice is employed in all activities.
Rectify minor faults discovered as a result of the Portable Appliance Testing, replacing cables, fuses, plug tops etc.
Store results of tests and download into main database as appropriate.
To ensure correct calibration of equipment and that it is fit for purpose. Any equipment deficiencies are to be notified to the EST Supervisor.
To assist the EST Supervisor and/or his Deputy, where possible, to liaise with the Customer for notification of delays to ensure their expectations can be managed and mitigating actions put in place.
Advise as to potential engineering solutions to technical problems encountered during electrical testing.
To ensure they work in a safe and efficient manner at all times.

Additional accountabilities:
Responsible, when required, for the completion of all documentation relevant to any task undertaken.
Assist the EST Supervisor to act as the prime customer interface for the duration of all Customer activities.
Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
Responsible for ensuring that all PAT Testing activities comply with all Babcock and customer standards.
Accurate completion of the following:
Accurate time recording and checking of returned hours;
Accurate return and checking of claims forms;
Health & Safety compliance;
Lean methodology;
Toolbox checks;

We're looking for a volunteer to help us out with this task - we'd save the items for you, and you would come into the shop when it is convenient for you, to regularly make sure the testing is completed for the latest donations.

If you don't already hold a PAT Testing qualification, we'll pay for you to have this training, and you'll get to keep your certificate in exchange for helping us out.

No previous experience is needed and it’s also a great way to pick up a new skill, whether you’re just starting out in work, looking for a new challenge or taking your career in a new direction.

Volunteering is a good way to meet new people. You can volunteer any day between Monday and Saturday and we can be flexible in terms of time commitments. As an Emmaus volunteer you will be given a full induction when you start.

PAT Tester - Newcastle upon Tyne

What will I be doing?

The role involves PAT testing Stereos, T. Vs, Kitchen equipment and small household electrical's always ensuring good quality control and accurate paperwork is kept for Health and Safety reasons

Where will I be based?

You will be based at Forget Me Not Shop, 3a Northgate Shopping Centre, Heckmondwike, WF16 9RL.

Who will show me what to do?

Our fantastic Trading Team will show you the ropes and give you all the support you need to get the most value from your time.

How many hours will I work?

Any time you can donate is brilliant; ideally we ask you commit to ½ day each week or a full day if you are available.

Do I need any skills/experience?

You will need to have experience in PAT testing, the items will be sold in our shops and make money for Forget Me Not.

Travel expenses will be paid in line with the Volunteer Expenses Policy.

Previous experience required and a Pat certificate required as proof.

All our volunteers are encouraged to attend training and volunteer meetings whenever possible.
