We are looking for an Electrical Equipment (PAT) Testing Engineer to join our growing team, carrying out electrical safety testing on appliances at client sites across the UK. This role is ideal for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and enjoys delivering excellent customer service while working independently.

You’ll be responsible for making sure that electrical appliances in commercial and residential settings meet required safety standards. Each day brings something different, as you’ll be travelling between job sites, engaging with clients, and performing high-quality testing with efficiency and professionalism.

Training & Progression

Full in-house training provided – no electrical experience required
Training prepares you for the City & Guilds 2377 qualification (funded by the company)

Working Hours & Flexibility

Contracted hours: 4 days a week, 28-hour contract (this is the standard requirement and will normally cover all duties)
Daily hours may vary and may occasionally extend up to 10 hours including travel
As a general rule, engineers are not asked to test for more than 6 hours per day, to reduce fatigue and maintain quality standards
Local shifts are usually around 7 hours in total (including breaks and travel)
Breaks:
Up to 6 hours: Optional 15-minute unpaid break
Over 6 hours: Mandatory 30-minute unpaid break
Travel & Mileage

This is a field-based role, and you may be asked to travel anywhere within the UK
All travel costs, accommodation, and expenses are covered by the company
When working locally, shifts are usually around 7 hours per day
When working away, travel time is paid hourly in addition to testing hours
Overnight stays are sometimes required, but never for more than 3 nights per week
Mileage reimbursement provided
A personal railcard is supplied, registered in your name, and can also be used for unlimited personal travel
Key Responsibilities

Conduct Electrical Equipment (PAT) Testing on-site at client locations

Deliver excellent customer service, answering any queries on-site
Participate in regular audits to maintain quality standards

Portable Appliance Tester - Sheffield

We have an exciting opportunity within our Portable Appliance Testing division for a full time PAT engineer.

The role requires you to undertake electrical safety inspections to portable and similar equipment at clients’ premises locally to your region, within the South of England and occasionally throughout the UK.

You will be based from home, with work booked on a weekly basis from our head office.

The position requires travel on a daily basis and occasional overnight stays for sites further afield. Travel, overnights & expenses will be paid.

Training, equipment, uniform, PPE & a van will be provided.

Following training you will carry out safety inspections and electrical tests to the equipment recording the data within a handheld computer and further advising the client of your findings.

The role is customer facing so good communication skills will be required.

Some site experience of "PAT Testing" is preferred and preferably the applicant will hold the City & Guilds 2377 qualification before appointment, however training will be provided for the right applicant)

Part-Time PAT Tester - Manchester

Details: Tree of Life Centre

This role has responsibility for the safe and effective PAT testing of donated electrical goods at The Tree of Life Centre. The successful candidate will carry out portable appliance tests, complete and file test sheets for each item, and ensure all items are clearly labelled with the appropriate PAT test result. They will work closely with the Shop Manager to ensure that items which pass are made available for sale, and those which fail are disposed of appropriately. The successful candidate will also be responsible for securely storing all PAT testing equipment at the end of each session, helping to maintain a safe and organised working environment.

Main responsibilities will include:

Carry out portable appliance tests on donated electrical goods
Completed test sheets for each item tested and file
Ensure PAT test label is placed on each item
Place small items that have passed to Shop Manager for selling
Place failed items to Shop Manager for disposal
Ensure that the PAT testing equipment
